Free Event Open to the Public Come and have a look atmagnificent astronomical objects through one of our many telescopes. This eventis open to all CUAS members, as well as members of the public. Children ages 10and older are welcome if accompanied by an adult. If it's clear, you will beable to see seasonal astronomical objects through one of our telescopes.Generally, we will use our 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope or our 22"Newtonian to show the moon, planets that may be visible in the early evening,and even a brighter deep-sky object like a star cluster or a galaxy. A 14"Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope may also be used. There is no charge for thisevent, but will be cancelled if the weather is cloudy or otherwise inclement.Please call 217-351-2567 before coming if there is any uncertainty about theweather. Unfortunately, we do not have public restroom facilities at theobservatory. To get to the observatory, take I-57 south to Exit 229, which isMonticello Road. Turn right onto Monticello Road and go 1½ miles West. Turn left onto County Road 700 E and proceed ½ mile south to theobservatory, which is on the east side of the road.
