All plants at one point come from a seed. The transition for seed to seedling and ultimately to adult plant is complex and challenging and plants have come up with a range of amazing strategies for helping to make this happen. These strategies can have a big impact on which species thrive in different places, how plants get around, and how plants might tolerate disturbances and changing environmental conditions. In this talk, we will explore the remarkable strategies plants use to disperse, persist, germinate, and establish, while connecting these processes to prairie restoration, management, and conservation.
Presenter Dr. Henn is an assistant Professor in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois. His research focuses on applied grassland plant ecology, with interests ranging from restoration ecology to grassland fire and plant functional traits. His work informs grassland management practices that aim to restore and maintain diversity under rapidly changing environmental conditions.
