Join Japan House for a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony!
There are many different variations of this revered 500-year-old art form. Traditionally, guests sit in the seiza posture on the tatami mats (kneeling with legs folded underneath and resting on the heels). There is also a variety of tea ceremony in which one sits on a chair while drinking the tea called ry?rei style, or table-style tea ceremony.
We will be alternating weekly between ry?rei (sitting on chairs) and on tatami mats (sitting cross-legged on the tearoom floor).
Seated on tatami mats, sitting cross-legged or kneeling: September 9, September 23, October 14, October 28, and November 11
Ry?rei style - seated on chairs: September 16, September 30, October 21, November 4, November 18
