Chinese Chess WorkShop
Join New American Welcome Center (NAWC) for a fun and welcoming Family Chinese Chess Workshop designed for children and parents in the Champaign-Urbana community. This family-friendly event introduces participants to Chinese chess (Xiangqi), one of the most popular traditional strategy games in Chinese culture.
The workshop is open to complete beginners as well as children and families who already know how to play. Participants will learn the basic rules of Chinese chess, how each piece moves, and simple strategies and tactics that can help improve their game. More experienced players will also have opportunities to practice, challenge others, and develop their skills.
The event will include hands-on instruction and guided games, allowing children and parents to learn together in a relaxed and supportive environment. A children's friendly chess tournament will also give young participants an opportunity to practice what they have learned, meet other children, and enjoy some friendly competition.
No previous Chinese chess experience is required. Families are encouraged to come together, learn something new, exercise their strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, and connect with other families in the local community.
